Website Performance Reports: Visibility, Link Popularity and Ranking
At the end of the day, when it comes to website marketing, it is traffic levels that count.
However, a number of other pieces of “performance data” regarding your website may be of interest and can also highlight the areas that need improving in order to obtain further increases in web traffic.
There are three sets of peformance data that are worth knowing and that we can help you with:
a) Visibility: the number of indexed pages that have been indexed by different search engines: For example, if your website contains 10 pages but Altavista has only indexed 6 of these, then you need to let Altavista know about the other 4 pages - otherwise you may be missing out on people searching for content relating on those 4 pages!
b) Link Popularity: the number of incoming links that search engines are crediting you with. Basically, the more incoming links the better. If you know that 10 other websites link to your website, but Google only knows about 6 of these links, then your website is likely to rank higher once Google is aware of those extra 4 incoming links to your site!
c) Ranking: while your website ranking doesn’t guarantee traffic, if your keyword phrases (phrases that relate to your site and for which you want to rank highly) do not appear in the top 30 results of search engines, then it doesn’t really matter where your site ranks - people aren’t going to visit it as they just don’t look beyond the top 30 results (and most only look at the first page of results)! If you know which keyphrases rank poorly on search engines, you can do something about it and optimise your site to increase the rankings for those keyword phrases.
